About the Southern Oregon Book & Author Fair.  This annual Book & Author Fair is the perfect holiday opportunity for Northwest authors to proudly display and sell their books, meet readers, and gab with other local authors. Afterall, this is the traditional kickoff period when readers are beginning their holiday gift shopping for books, BOOKS, and m-o-r-e BOOKS!

For authors:

  • Info - Receive email updates/announcements via our Yahoo Group bookandauthorfair, as instructed previously.
  • How to Register for the Fair - Table registration is for published authors of fiction and non-fiction living/working in the Northwest. Registration  is on a first registered & paid/first served basis. The cost of table space is $20.00 per author. Go to the FAQ page for registration directions (the FAQ tab is towards the upper right of the page). If you send in our registration and all space is full, you'll receive an email from the person handling registration asking if you wish to be placed on a waiting list or have your check returned.

Author Space at the Fair. There are two authors per table (though authors with many books to sell have, sometimes, opted to pay for an entire table), each pre-paying a $20.00 registration fee for one-half of a 6 ft. long table space (the hotel provides a table cloth on each table). The hotel management is also supplying us another room on the same floor where they will set up coffee and chairs so authors can have a place to take a break - but bear in mind your table needs to be staffed by someone to help customers.)

Details about HOW-TO sign up for our Yahoo group.  You must first have a Yahoo ID  If you don't, there will be a place to register on the Yahoo pages for a Yahoo Id :

- Go to www.yahoo.com

- Click on Groups

- In the "Find Yahoo Group" box, type:  bookandauthorfair

- Click "Join This Group" and fill in all Yahoo required info.

- After you've registered for our group, the bookandauthorfair, an email will notify us of your interest in joining the email list, and we have to manually hit "approve" (thus saving us from - or at least reducing - the amount of junk Spam registration if your registration information seems legitimate. Please do write something about your books/why you're interested so we know your registration fits)

- You then receive a confirming registration email.

If you are not internet savvy, and if you are unable to figure out the Yahoo registration process, please ask a friend for assistance. I am focusing on event organizational details and am not available to answer computer user questions).

Enjoy the world of books? The 2008 Southern Oregon Book and Author Fair offers you books galore in a wide variety of genres, including Mystery, Romance, History, Travel, Spirituality, Childrens, Regional, Poetry, Memoirs and more.

Free Admission and a perfect time for finding a winter read as well as doing holiday shopping. Why not organize an outing of friends and relatives and peruse the Fair? Authors will be on-hand to sell and autograph their books personally. You'll be able to purchase books for your own enjoyment plus select books for holiday gifting (Autographed books make a truly personalized gift!)

Purchases are made by cash or check only directly from the individual author, so there's no standing in a long line at a final check-out booth.

If you or friends are coming in from out of town, you can also utilize the special hotel rate we're arranging through the Ashland Springs Hotel. The details and password for that will be announced on this site before October 2008.

Each year we bring in a Featured Author. This year's Featured Author is Romance writer, Lisa Hendrix. Go to the Information page of this website (see tab at upper right of this page) to learn more about Lisa and her six books (Lisa's most recent, Immortal Warrior, is being released in November by Berkley -- just in time to debut at the 2008 Southern Oregon Book & Author Fair.

Our poster is now ready and available for viewing. To receive a copy, please email oregonbookfair@gmail.com and in subject line write:  book fair flyer. Once you receive your flyer, you can help promote the fair to your friends and the general public. (a) Send them to your e-list as an attachment and (b) print them out by having a copy shop - such as our copy sponsor Office Depot on Crater Lake Hwy - print out quality copies for you to distribute/hang in public locations (see our negotiated rate and how to order on the Information page of this site under the Sponsors section).

Please help us promote this fair by distributing/hanging flyers on storefront windows (requires manager approval), at coffee houses, markets, schools, libraries, kiosks, church and club bulletin boards, and more.

We'll particularly need a lot of flyers distributed/hung in the immediate areas of Ashland, Medford, Phoenx, Talent.  Naturally, flyers from Mt. Shasta to Eagle Point, Klamath Falls, Portland, Eugene, Bend, etc are much needed and desired. All good PR is valuable and strengthens our outreach.

If everyone reading this and all our interested authors/Yahoo Group members would hang at least five (5) flyers in publically visible locations, you are contributing to the fair's success at very little expense of your own. (Keep checking back at those spots in case they've disappeared and need replacing)

. Also:

Event sponsors are listed on our Information Page. Each offers some service and/or discount that benefits authors in some way. Put a smile on their faces by letting them know you're coming in to thank them for supporting the Southern Oregon Book & Author Fair. To date, the 2008 sponsors include AshootingstarZ Production (www.ashootingstarz.com), the Ashland Springs Hotel (www.ashlandspringshotel.com), and Jay Barry Design & Print (website under reconstruction so reach them at jdbarrydesign@qwestoffice.net ). Our newest sponsor is Office Depot's copy department (Crater Lake store), and they're providing special discounts for us on color and B/W copies for a limited time. Check out the Information page for sponsor details.
